20th March 2020. Working from home, M’s Diary Entry, Day 2

M,s Diary

Nothing to write about really, I have a strict deadline to meet so it’s mostly been head down this morning.  Around ten while having a coffee and some nice biscuits from David’s not so secret hiding place in the kitchen bits and bobs draw I realised there is one major disadvantage from having my desk facing the window rather than the passageway to the kitchen, and that is being reminded just how untidy the garden has become over the winter. I am going to have to get David to help a lot more this year, so I think it’s time to start building him up to it.

I know he doesn’t have a lot of time due to his workload, but we really need to get some kind of work life balance if I am going to be at home more. He has been in the office all morning and said he doesn’t want to be disturbed as he has so much to do. I think he is trying to catch up as I am off work next week to use up the last of my holidays. I had hoped to take it easy, but David wants to try and grab some cover shots for a Lake District walking magazine. I don’t mind him using me as an unpaid model, but he can be so insensitive. Imagine posing in front of a wonderful Lakeland view only to hear him say “just suck your belly in a bit”. It’s a bloody cheek coming from a bloke with a belly so big he rests his cup on it when he watches TV.

Earlier I heard him laughing in the office and intrigued I popped upstairs with a cuppa for him. I wasn’t that bothered about taking him a drink, but I needed an excuse to see what he was up to. I was surprised to see he was watching Simon’s Cat and felt pretty annoyed with him. Not just because he didn’t appear to be working, it was partly because we normally watch Simons Cat together and it made me feel left out. I said "I thought you were supposed to be working"?  He explained he was doing some research for a future filming project and was getting some ideas on comedy sequences and timings, as well as how to cut sequences together and create transitions for best effect. I have to admit I lost interest when he started talking about B-Roll, frame rates and MPEG files. I know all about them, but he is so boring once he gets on a roll about photography. Fortunately the phone rang and I managed to escape.

While eating my secret stash of cake and mulling over the last couple of days, I have to admit I had thought David took it easy when I was at work. I was clearly wrong…. well not wrong as such – how could I be? Just kind of surprised I suppose.  Not to worry though, having seen how much he does I have a brilliant idea to surprise him with after the holidays. He will love it.
